Furnishings and Furniture:
The above map indicates some of the locations that one can find furnishings and furniture for your home from stores in the West Village and SoHo. The red line is a suggested shopping path to tour some of these unique stores to find home furnishing sold in area.
1. DESIRON, 151 Wooster Street, near West Houston Street
Desiron is rooted in the classical training of Mid-Century furniture design and production. Clean lines marry with rich materials and the utmost attention to detail.
2. Beyond the Bosphorus, 79 Sullivan Street, near Spring Street
Bright, colorful carpets cover the floors, the walls, and every other surface of this genie’s-bottle-like shop. The store specializes in handwoven kilims and throw pillows, with cleaning and repair services also available.
3. Moss, 150 Greene Street, near West Houston Street
Moss offers one of the world's most sophisticated selections of porcelain tableware, crystal and cutlery, contextualized in presentation by association with furniture and lighting from some of the greatest designers of the 20th century. The furniture and objects offered at the shop deliberately blur the distinctions between production and craft, between industry and art, and more recently, between industrial and decorative arts.
4. Muji, 455 Broadway
Muji is not about brand presence, but rather the removal of brand and the focus on economy of production and marketing. Most items, which range from bookcases to plates and tableware, are in their raw state, and presented in the natural cardboard finish or white.
5. CB2, 451 Broadway,
CB2 is the new store and presence from Crate and Barrel. Unlike it's parent company, CB2 focuses on the modern aesthetic, with clean lines and bold colors. CB2 is also a reasonably priced alternative to some of the other options in the area, and is a favorite for NYU students and faculty alike.
6. Design within Reach, 110 Greene Street,
Design Within Reach (or DWR) focuses on providing access to the world's most recognizable modern furniture. DWR is the registered sales provider of such iconic works of art and furniture as the Eames lounge chair and the Noguchi coffee table. Although priced accordingly, these pieces will never go out of style, and already exist in most modern museum collections as well as the homes of the design savvy.
7. DWR Tools for Living, 142 Wooster Street,
Following the success of Design with Reach, DWR Tools for Living provides all the other essentials for the home after the furniture is arranged. DWR Tools offers kitchen, home, and office supplies with the same attention to detail that DWR has made a reputation on with its iconic masterpieces of the modern movement.
8. Blu Dot, 140 Wooster,
Blu Dot's new store in SoHo will be a welcome addition to those focused on modern furniture. A favorite of Dwell magazine readers, Blu Dot will certainly find success at this location adjacent to DWR Tools for Living.
