International Food and Drink Crawl: "The nycatelier international Greenwich village food and drink crawl"
The red line on the map above is the path of the nycatelier international Greenwich village food and drink crawl. This is a printable map for exploring the beers, drinks, food, and culture of the various countries that are represented by establishments in the west village. Start at one end of the line and follow it along to the other end, while stopping at the numbered bars, cafes, lounges, and restaurants to have a beer, drink, or a bit of food from each of the various countries.
1. Belgium: Vol de Nuit, Belgian Beer Lounge, 148 West 4th Street, between 6th Ave. and MacDougal
The perfect Belgian bar, tucked away down an otherwise quite ally.
Suggested Beer: Delirium Tremens
Suggested Food: Moules et Frites (Mussells and Fries)
2. Spain: Kana Tapas Bar and Restaurant, 324 Spring Street, between Greenwich and Washington
Kana features excellent food, cooked in typical Spanish style. The place offers a cozy and intimate atmosphere dominated by brick walls and dim lightning similar to what you would find in a typical bar in Madrid Spain. Kana also is a great place to dance, as it turns into an intimate disco in the later evening.
Suggested Beer:Estrella Damm
Suggested Food: Chorizo
3. Germany: Lederhosen German Wurst & Bierhaus, 39 Grove, between Bedford and Bleecker Streets
"Genuine German Goodness" is their slogan, and it's hard to argue.
Suggested Beer: Hofbrauhaus Munchen
Suggested Food: Bratwurst Platter
4. Morocco: Cafe Noir, 32 Grand Street, between Thompson and 6th Avenue
Cafe Noir, part bistro, part tapas bar, with its Mediterranean ambience and reputation for hip-rattling world music DJ sessions, has kept a diverse crowd. An inspired menu featuring a wide selection of small mix-and-match plates and solid Mediterranean entrees keeps the diners coming. They nestle in the arcaded nooks or ham it up with the DJ, noshing on perfect grilled calamari, delicate goat cheese-laced Moroccan pizzas, baked brie, or seared tuna.
Suggested Beer: Casblanca Beer
Suggested Food: Marinated Mushrooms
5. Ireland: The Four Faced Liar, 165 West 4th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues
A haven for Irish ex-pats and West Village locals, the Four-Faced Liar is unpretentious and welcoming. The traditional pub strives to be what the Irish refer to as your 'local,' the place where the bartenders know your name and your drink and other patrons recognize you and a comfortable, relaxed environment
Suggested Beer: Guinness
Suggested Food: Bangers and mash
6. Korea: Do Hwa
A delicious taste of Korean Barbecue, in a setting that is perfect for any gathering. The food can also be cooked at your table, should you choose one of their table contained grilles.
SSuggested Beer: O.B. (Oriental Beer)
Suggested Food: Bi Bim Bop and a Bulgogi
7. Italy: Centro Vinoteca, 74 Seventh Avenue South at Barrow Street
The restaurant occupies an airy, two story building with French doors opening onto bustling Seventh Avenue and a more intimate dining room upstairs. Chef Anne Burrell is behind the stove, serving her boldly flavored creative authentic take on the culinary traditions of Italy.
Suggested Beer: Birra Moretti
Suggested Food: Marinated White Anchovies
8. France: (Le) Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street, at Thompson Street
(Le) Poisson Rouge touts itself as a multimedia cabaret with a dacor inspired by 1920's Paris. The black and red interior features a fish tank chandelier in the entrance (with red fish, of course) and the main concert hall includes two film screens and two elevated VIP opera boxes. Founded by classical musicians who met at Manhattan School of Music (composer/violinist David Handler and cellist/teacher Justin Kantor), the historic, Art Deco 800-capacity venue (formerly the Village Gate) is a tribute to music's role as a cultural focal point.
Suggested Beer: Kronenbourg 1664
9. Greece: Karavas Tavern, 162 West 4th Street, between 6th Avenue and Bleecker
Connected to a Greek coffeeshop, this generic but popular late-night stop attracts a middle-aged set and co-eds wandering in after a night out. The aesthetic is sore on the eyes, as dangling white lights centered on a Heineken emblem, Egyptian art, and gold-encrusted objects look like they belong in a Cairo college dorm.
Suggested Beer: Mythos
10. Jamaica: Negril Village, 70 West 3rd between Thompson and LaGuardia
Negril Village, the taste of the carribean, attracts soul seekers eager to please their palette with authentic island food and drink. The Rhum Lounge downstairs is the prime backdrop to sample a variety of rums from the Caribbean's favorite destinations, along with an ample selection from the full bar.
Suggested Beer: Red Stripe
11. United States: The Stoned Crow, 85 Washington Place, between 6th Ave. and Washington Sq. W.
The Stoned Crow is a classic friendly neighborhood bar, just steps from Washington Square Park. You can play a bit of pool, stare at the endless selection of movie posters and portraits on the walls (don't forget the walls in the bathroom!) and nibble on one of our fabulous hamburgers (from the chef that made the corner bistro famous).
Suggested Beer: Six Point
12. Vietnam: Bom-Bar (Apple Restaurant), 17 Waverly, between Greene and Mercer Streets
The vast lounge area adjacent to the dining area (Apple Restaurant), known as the Bombar, offers a comfortable setting with numerous cozy, leather sofas and a large bar counter. The open area in the main dining room with high-ceiling, and beautiful Asian decor creates a peaceful ambience for a pleasurable dining experience.
Suggested Beer: Tiger Beer
13. China (Shanghai): Kelly and Ping, 127 Greene Street, between Prince and West Houston
Based on the typical markets of Shanghai, Kelly and Ping offers cafeteria style dining during the day, and a more elegant restaurant style at night. The bar up front can always offer a drink and a taste of Shanghai.
Suggested Beer: TsingTao
14. Mexico: Panchito's, 103 MacDougal Street
Perhaps as authentic a mexican restaurant can be, which means don't look for upscale foods and drinks here. Panchito's has the typical mexican fare and a great view of Minetta from the back windows.
Suggested Beer: Corona
