The desire to take advantage of under utilized outdoor space is common throughout New York City. Rooftop additions and terraces are especially popular with building owners and top floor apartment dwellers. This project illustrates through before, during construction, and completed project photos, the process of utilizing an existing rooftop for an outdoor terrace.

The proliferation of renovating and planting rooftops throughout the city has many benefits beyond the enjoyment and added value for the owners. The renovated and planted rooftops help reduce the urban heat island effect, encourages local wildlife such as birds, while increasing the buildings insulation thereby reducing utility costs.
